Last Tuesday evening, Spa hosted the division 18 u14s county league final between Spa B and Dr Crokes B. Crokes started brightly getting the first score of the game as our lads were slow to settle. Josh Buckley got Spas' first score, and when Ryan Casey struck for our first goal, we began to settle well into the game. Crokes then got their first goal before Casey hit 1-1. Timmy O Sullivan popped over a lovely score to leave us four clear. Crokes then hit a purple patch where they tagged on 1-3. Crokes could have hit more goals only for some outstanding goalkeeping from Darragh Kearney. Just before the break, Noah Murphy levelled with a point to leave the scoreline 2-4 to 2-4 at the break. This game was anyone's for the taking. Both teams started slowly in the second half with no scores coming in the opening minutes. Spa then took control of the game. Noah Murphy, who was causing the crokes back, all sorts of trouble kicked over two quick pints. Dima Makarchuk struck a long-range point before Max Wesolowski struck for our third and final goal to leave us six clear. Our backs were giving nothing easy to Crokes with Lennon Cronin and james Brosnan mopping up balls all over the backline. Both Spa and Crokes traded points with Noah Murphy, Josh Buckley, and Max Wesolowski getting the scores for the home side. James Brosnan and Murphy pushed out lead out to eight. Crokes struck for their third goal before Noah Murphy got onto a beautiful crossfield ball from Wesolowski to kick a point the last score of the game. Spa deserved winners on a scoreline of 3-13 to 3-7. When the game was there to be won, Spa played some brilliant football out scoring Crokes by 1-9 to 1-3 in the second half. Jimmy o Sullivan Darcy presented the trophy to joint captains Lennon Cronin and Ryan Cronin. This Spa team has shown great development through hard work over the last few months and reaped their rewards on Tuesday evening. Thanks to Dr Crokes for contributing to a great game of football. Thanks also to the Ref. A special thanks to all the supporters who attended the game. It was great to see all the Spa u14s A players in attendance supporting their team mates in the final, and we wish those A players all the best with East Kerry in the county championship
