This evening, both our U14 teams headed into Legion for our next round of the county league games. Both games served up a real treat of football. First out were the B Team. Following the same pattern as last week's game, we did very well against the breeze for most of the first half. However, Legion took their chances better towards the end of the half and went in three points up on a scoreline of 1-2 to 0-8 with Ryan Casey hitting the net for our goal. Legion started the second half better and tagged on a few scores to push out the lead. Our lads, however, battled hard to get back into this game and had further goals from Josh Buckley, Maks Wesolowski and Ryan Casey. Cian o Donohue kicked a point to leave just the one in it with one min to go. Legion won the kickout and controlled the ball for the minute before the ref blew full time. Again, great progress shown by this team, who had the chances to win this game.
Next up were our A team against a strong Legion team. Legion started the game better and went into a four point lead. At this stage, Legion were playing the better football, and Spa were struggling to work the ball up the field. Saying that when we moved the ball fast, we looked dangerous, making the Legion keeper work who made three excellent saves. At half time, we were down by 4. Spa regrouped at half time and seemed to settle more into the game and started to play some nice football. Our backs began to get the upper hand and started to make life a bit more difficult for the Legion forwards. With a few minutes remaining, we were three down. Up stepped Eric Corcoran who ran onto a through ball and calmly slotted the ball into the Legion net. All aboard with a minute to go. Again, another through ball, which Corcoran ran onto and again net the net. Three up and half a minute to go. Legion won the kickout and moved the ball down the field. A high ball into the Legion forwards was dealt with by our lads in the back. As we worked our way out with the ball, the ref blew for full time. A great game of football by both teams. Eric Corcoran kicked an incredible 4-8 with James Brosnan kicking our other point. Thanks to both Legions teams and both refs
