The Spa Senior ladies hosted Annascaul/Castkegregory this Friday evening in the Credit Union Donal Curtin Cup Division 3 Round 4. In beautiful sunshine it was a perfect evening for football. Annascaul/Castlegreory opened the scoreboard in the very first attack but Spa answered back immediately and took off from there with Maireád Bennett and Meghann Cronin both controlling midfield. It was a very strong first half performance from all Spa players, closing down Annascaul/Castlegregory’s kick outs and punishing them with some lovely scores which gave Spa a comfortable lead going into half time leading 1-12 to 1-02.
Annascaul/Castlegregory suffered a yellow card 5 minutes before halftime but began the second half with a strong attack and were unlucky with a wide that should’ve really been a goal. Spa lost a bit of their formation when the opposition was down to 14 players and let in a goal and two points during this time but they managed to regroup again and stretch out their lead with some fine scores from Saoirse Kelly, Liadh Tobin, Aoife Cronin, Mags Cronin, Maireád Bennett and Meghann Cronin. Overall it was a brilliant team performance showing high work rate, strong support play and excellent turnovers. Our four subs were a great addition to this fast paced game and a huge congratulations to Grace O’Shea who played her first game for Spa tonight. The final score was 3-23 to 2-04 to Spa. Our next match is away to Firies on Sunday 27th April.
