Our U14s B team made the short journey to Lewis Road to take on our neighbours, Dr. Crokes this evening. Crokes playing with a slight wind made the better start and went into a three point lead. At this stage, Crokes were playing the better football, and we were struggling to move the ball into our forwards. While our backs were under pressure, we had some great goal line blocks, and our keeper Darragh Kearney kept us in the game with some fine saves. Ryan Casey got onto a through ball and poked it past the Crokes keeper for our first score. At the break, we trailed by three points with a score line of Crokes 1-5 Spa 1-2.
At the start of the second half, Crokes got a goal to leave us five behind. After this, we started to get a grip of the game, and with our midfielders of Maks Wesolowski and Josh Buckley starting to win more possession, we started to reel Crokes back with with points for James Brosnan and Noah Murphy. James Brosnan centre back and Daithi Coughlan centre Forward began to win key battles, and when Daniel Cremin hit the back of the net, we were two points up.
Crokes, however, came at us again and got two quick goals and tagged on a few points to leave us six behind. Noah Murphy, who had a fantastic second half, got us back into the game with a well taken goal. We got another point to leave us two behind. With time nearly up, we had a close in free with the last play of the game. James Brosnan stuck for goal, but the Crokers keeper made a great save. The ball, however, broke out to Brosnan, and he finished to the net. With us a point up, the ref blew for full time. Final score was Dr Crokes 4-8 Spa 4-9.
We would like to thank Crokes for a great game of football and also thank the ref who did a great job officiating the game. It had been a good week for both U14 teams. Both games away from home and having to come from behind to win away in North Kerry and Dr Crokes.
