The Spa Senior Ladies hosted Fossa today in the final round of the group stages in the Credit Union Donal Curtin Cup.
Despite Spa getting a penalty in the opening minutes it was Fossa that opened the score line with Anne O’Shaughnessy making an excellent save for Fossa when Maireád Bennett stepped up to the spot. Spa’s Saoirse Kelly was very unlucky not to add to the score board with a couple of goal chances hitting the post and the rebounds were gathered up by Fossa. Fossa took all their scoring opportunities and had a healthy lead at half time 5-03 to 0-3.
It was a better performance from Spa in the second half with subs making a great impact as well. Clare Murphy for Spa made her debut today and contributed brilliantly. Again Spa hit the posts twice and dropped one into the goalies hands while also hitting a couple of wides but they did manage to close a little scoring a goal and two points but Fossa were always in control and despite losing a player to a yellow card in the second half their work rate was immense and always seemed to have their support player. It was not the usual Spa ladies performance today, their decision making was poor at times but they will regroup and come back stronger. There was a few injuries today on both sides and we wish every player a speedy recovery. Fossa won with a score of 6-06 to 1-05.
